De Duiker, De Hand en de Kleine Reuzin - Augustus 2010

Vrijdag 20 augustus 2010, werd ik gevraagd overdag mee permanentie en toezicht uit te oefenen, bij een aktiviteit van Royal De Luxe in Antwerpen: "De Duiker, De Hand en de Kleine Reuzin".

Dit leek me heel leuk, dus zorgde ik er ook voor iets bij me te hebben om de mogelijke lege momenten wat te vullen. Bij de ene mens is dit een kruiswoordraadsel, tetris of een boek. Voor mezelf is dit potlood en papier, en de ingesteldheid "to kick it", namelijk wanneer de gelegenheid zich voordoet, er al tekenend in te vliegen.

Het zicht vanaf mijn plekje bij de geluidsinstallatie was vrij interessant, daarom sloeg ik na mijn lunchpakketje dan ook aan het tekenen.

Als aktieve "artistieke attraktie zonder touwtjes", ben ik ook nogal wat gekiekt, o.a door mensen van www.straattheater.net.

Rond 14.30u was mijn tekening klaar en werd het te druk, door de volkstoeloop aan de Kattendijkdok, omdat verwacht werd dat de reusachtige duiker rond 15u uit het water zou komen.

Er hing een echte spanning in de lucht tot het gebeurde. Hij werd uit het water gehesen en begon te stappen in de richting van de kaaien van de oude stad.

Wonderlijk en indrukwekkend.

The Diver, The Hand and The Little Giantess - August 2010

Friday, August 20th 2010, I was asked to assist in the permanence and supervision, by an activity of Royal De Luxe in Antwerp: "The Diver, The Hand and The Little Giantess".

This seemed to be fun and particularly interesting, so I saw to it to come prepared. Most people bring an interesting book, crosswords or tetris to stay sharp during the calmer intervals. Me, I bring pencils and paper and the attitude to "kick it", when the opportunity arrises, and just draw for the fun of it.

The view from my spot near the sound-tower was very interesting, so after my lunch, I started drawing.

While I was sketching, I was an active "artistic attraction without strings", so I got photographed quite a few times.

At about 14.30 h, I finished my drawing. The place and complete surroundings of the dock got overcrowded. People expected the Giant Diver to come out of the water around 15.00 h.

So a real tension was in the air, when he did. He was hauled out of the water and started walking to the quays of the old city-center.

It was very marvelous and impressive.
